Which airport should I travel to?

Galeão International Airport (GIG) is the main international airport serving Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Do I need a visa for Brazil?

Citizens of some countries require a visa for Brazil. Starting January 2018, Brazil is introducing electronic visas for the citizens of four states: Australia, Japan, Canada, and the United States.

You can check your visa requirements here.

Do I need vaccinations?

Yellow fever vaccination is not an entry requirement if entering the country from a non-yellow fever part of the world. However, you should be vaccinated according to your national immunization schedule, which will vary from one country to another. We recommend that you check with your local doctor if you need to catch up on any vaccinations for Rio.

Is Rio safe?

Rio de Janeiro is currently under a Military Intervention State. This means that fighting street crime has a very high priority for the government and the police. Unfortunately, as in every big city, street crime is very difficult to eradicate completely. It’s therefore important to be just as cautious and responsible as you would in any other large urban area. Stay alert and inform yourself about Rio’s safety tips.
